ジョグジャカルタは有名な教育と古典ジャワ美術と文化の中心地としたインドネシアの都市です。ここで文化展示会は頻繁に開催されています。

１１月２０日から２９日までSonobudoyo博物館でインドネシアの多くの地域から約500の古代の仮面が展示されています。
それは「The Power of Topeng (The Power of the Mask)」と呼ばれるイベントです。仮面はインドネシア語で「Topeng」と言います。そのイベントはすべてのインドネシアの各領域から集められた400の仮面を提示します。他の仮面はSonobudoyo美術館のコレクションからのものです。

イベントのキュレーターは、I Wayan Danaさんによると、仮面は装飾としての機能だけではなく　宗教儀式の道具としても使われており超能力者と通信する道具としても使われていました。
各時代の伝統により、形を変えてゆき、歴史の移りかわりと共にその時代の仮面が残されてきました。インドネシアの先史時代から伝わる仮面には、マジャパヒト王国時代に愛を語った伝統舞踊パンジで使われたものや、インドネシアのヒンドゥー教の王国時代のラーマーヤナを表すものがあります。

ジョグジャカルタの文化長、Umat Priyonoさんは、イベントを通じて、インドネシアへの文化の発信と仮面を通じて歴史への興味、理解を広げることになることを期待しています。と、イベントの主催者に感謝の意を表明しました。

Ratusan Topeng Kuno Ditampilkan di Yogyakarta.

Yogyakarta adalah salah satu kota di Indonesia yang terkenal sebagai pusat pendidikan dan seni budaya klasik Jawa. Di kota ini juga sering diadakan pameran kebudayaan.

Sekitar 500 topeng kuno dari berbagai daerah di Indonsia ditampilkan di Museum Sonobudoyo, Yogyakarta mulai tanggal 20 sampai 29 November 2015. Acara yang disebut The Power of Topeng ini menampilkan 400 topeng dari seluruh daerah di Indonesia dan lainnya merupakan topeng koleksi Museum Sonobudoyo.

Kurator acara, I Wayan Dana, mengatakan bahwa berdasarkan sejarah Indonesia, topeng ini tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai karya seni, tetapi juga sebagai alat ritual keagamaan. Dalam ritual keagamaan, topeng digunakan sebagai alat untuk berkomunikasi dengan kekuatan supranatural. Sementara bentuk topeng tersebut disesuaikan dengan tradisi pada setiap era.

Topeng telah menjadi bagian dari Indonesia sejak zaman prasejarah Indonesia ribuan tahun yang lalu. Topeng Panji misalnya, topeng ini telah dikembangkan sejak zaman kerajaan Majapahit yang menceritakan tentang kisah cinta pada zaman tersebut. Contoh lainnya adalah topeng Ramayana, yang dikembangkan selama masa kerajaan Hindu di Indonesia.

Kepala Badan Budaya Yogyakarta, Umat Priyono, menyampaikan apresiasi kepada penyelenggara acara dengan harapan bahwa acara ini akan memperluas pemahaman masyarakat terhadap pengembangan topeng sebagai produk budaya Indonesia.

Hundreds of Ancient Masks Displayed in Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta is a city in Indonesia renowned as a center of education and classical Javanese fine art and culture. Cultural exhibitions are often held in the city.

About 500 ancient masks from many regions across Indonesia are being displayed at the Sonobudoyo Museum in Yogyakarta from November 20th to 29th . The event called The Power of Topeng (The Power of the Mask), presents 400 masks from all over the regions in Indonesia and the other masks that are from the collection of the Sonobudoyo Museum.

The curator of the event, I Wayan Dana, said that based on Indonesian history, masks not only functioned as works of art, but also as instruments of religious rituals. In religious rituals, masks were used as instruments to communicate with supernatural powers. While their shapes were adjusted to the traditions in each era. The masks also developed side by side with the changes of kingdoms in this archipelago.

Masks had been parts of Indonesian prehistory thousands of years ago. For example, the Mask of Panji which developed during the Majapahit Kingdom, told a love story in the era. Other example is the Ramayana Mask, which was developed during the Indonesian Hindu kingdoms.

The head of Yogyakarta Culture Agency, Umat Priyono, expressed his appreciation to the organizers of the event. He hopes that this event would widen people’s understanding of the development of masks as a cultural product in Indonesia.
